Youngkin and Spanberger meet to discuss transition of power

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Just two days after Abigail Spanberger became Virginia’s Governor-elect, the transition between her administration and Governor Glenn Youngkin’s is in full swing.

“It’s gonna to be an adventurous few weeks as we head towards January, but I think we’re off to a fantastic start,” Spanberger told reporters on Thursday.

Spanberger and Youngkin met for lunch at the Executive Mansion on Thursday with their spouses.

“Our administration is fully standing by to support in any aspect necessary to make sure that the transition goes extremely smoothly and that Governor-elect Spanberger is ready on Day One to do the job of the people,” Youngkin said.

Spanberger said the pair discussed the transition and some of the challenges that she will face moving her young kids into the executive mansion.

“It’s wonderful to have a preceding governor who is committed to making sure that some of those things that you didn't even know to ask questions are answered, and so first lady Youngkin has been clear on that front as well, particularly as it relates to the adjustment for our family,” Spanberger said.

On the policy side, when asked, Spanberger shared some information about her first priorities as governor.

“Specifically, in policy priorities -- increasing housing supply, lowering costs in housing, in energy and ultimately in healthcare,” she said.
