12 apartments impacted, 31 people displaced in Albemarle County fire
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to an apartment complex fire that displaced 31 occupants.
At 2:10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, fire crews responded to the U-Heights Apartment Complex for a report of a fire. The first crew came about six minutes after the call, discovering smoke coming from the first floor and fire spreading to the units above it.
According to the fire department, there were 12 apartment units impacted and 31 occupants displaced from the fire. Also, eight pet birds were rescued from one apartment unit.
The American Red Cross is currently assisting the residents and their pets.
No occupants were injured, but a police officer on the scene was treaded for smoke inhalation.
Albemarle County Fire Marshal's Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire, but it does not look to be suspicious in nature.
