19-year-old driver accused of hitting deputy with car at Dinwiddie school

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Dinwiddie County sheriff's deputy is in the hospital after police say they were hit by a driver while directing traffic at a local school.

At about 8:20 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, state troopers with Virginia State Police were called to Midway Elementary School for report of a pedestrian struck.

Investigators learned that a deputy with the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office was hit by a driver on Route 751 while they were directing traffic.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. They are expected to recover.

State police said the involved driver, a 19-year-old Powhatan County woman, was charged with reckless driving.
