93-year-old Cumberland man found dead under suspicious circumstances

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 93-year-old Cumberland County man and beloved community member was found dead inside a Cumberland County home in late March, with Virginia State Police investigating his death as suspicious in nature.

Just before 9 a.m. on Friday, March 27, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office received a call about a man who had been found dead inside of a local home. A more specific address was not provided.

Details on this incident are very limited at this time. However, state police said that “a firearm was located nearby.”

In early April, state police identified this man as 93-year-old Robert B. Jackson, Sr. -- however, authorities could not provide any further information about his cause and manner of death.

A spokesperson for Cumberland County Public Schools (CUCPS) told 8News that Jackson, whose children were enrolled in CUCPS, was considered a "valued member of the community and a supporter of the school division."

The investigation into this suspicious death, which will be handled by Virginia State Police, continues. No additional information is available as of the time of reporting.
