19-year-old Hopewell man killed in crash in Charles City County
Editor's Note: The name of the victim has been updated as per a correction released by Virginia State Police. CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 19-year-old Hopewell man is dead after police say he crashed his car on Route 5 in Charles City County on Wednesday morning. According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 5 about a half-mile east of Wilcox Neck Road at around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17. It was determined that 19-year-old Justin Paul Dorriety of Hopewell was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion heading west on Route 5 when he ran off the right side of the road and struck trees and a culvert before overturning and hitting more trees. The car came to a stop on its roof and Dorriety, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation by state police.
