19-year-old killed in single-vehicle crash in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 19-year-old man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Cumberland County on Tuesday morning.

Virginia State Police said the crash took place at 8:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, on Route 60, or Anderson Highway, in Cumberland County.

According to police, a 2017 Ford Fiesta was speeding on Route 60 westbound, near the intersection with Blenheim Road, when it went off the right side of the road.

The Ford then hit a tree, spun and caught fire, per officials.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Edilmar H. Alvarez Sunun of North Chesterfield, died at the scene. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
