19-year-old woman dies in Lake Anna drowning incident, Louisa County sheriff investigating
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Louisa County Sheriff's Office has launched a death investigation after a 19-year-old woman was found in a drowning incident at Lake Anna on Saturday.
Around 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 9, deputies were called to the area of Sandy Point Drive in Bumpass for a reported drowning.
"Witnesses on the scene reported that Sally Bedell, a 19-year-old female from Arlington, Virginia, had jumped from a structure into the water and, after resurfacing, went missing," a release from the sheriff's office reads.
Fire & EMS units also arrived at the scene and the Spotsylvania County Dive Team was requested to assist in search efforts.
Shortly afterwards, Bedell was found unresponsive in the water. Responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Sally Bedell during this difficult time," the release reads.
