2 adults, 5 teens arrested for alleged robbery in Hanover County

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two adults and five teenagers in connection to a robbery that was reported last weekend.

At 10:34 p.m., on Saturday, March 1, deputies responded to a report of a robbery by masked suspects that occurred in the 10000 block of Honey Meadows Road.

According to the Hanover Sheriff’s Office, a teenage victim reported they were physically assaulted by suspects who stole several personal items. The victim had a laceration to the face that required stitches and had bone fractures from the assault.

Investigators have identified two adults -- 18-year-old Brian Michael Gibson Jr., of Mechanicsville, and 19-year-old Duran William Bozkurt, of Mechanicsville -- and five teenagers who were a mix of boys and girls, were allegedly responsible for luring the victim to the location and conspiring to commit robbery.

Gibson and Bozkurt were arrested and are being charged with:

  • Brandishing of a Firearm
  • Robbery
  • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery
  • Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy to use Firearm in Commission of a Felony

According to the sheriff's office, the other five suspects were charged with the same offenses and taken to the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center. Gibson and one of the juveniles were charged with the prohibition of wearing masks in certain places.

“Once again, I am incredibly proud of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and their hard work to bring this case to a close in such a quick manner," said Sheriff David R. Hines. "Regardless of the ages of those involved, there is no place for this behavior in our community. I would also like to thank the many residents and parents that provided valuable information during this investigation.”
