2 dead, 7 injured after Shockoe Bottom shooting in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two people are dead and seven other people were injured after a mass shooting in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom early Saturday morning.

At around 2:47 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, officers with the Richmond Police Department said they saw a large crowd engaging in confrontations in the 00 block of North 18th Street while on patrol.

When officers responded, they found a woman unresponsive with gunshot wounds. She died at the scene, police said.

Additional officers later arrived on scene and found another man unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene, per officials.

Police said they found seven other adults with gunshot wounds, who were all transported to local hospitals. Three of the victims were transported by personal vehicles.

Authorities said in total nine people were shot in the incident, including a man and a woman with deadly injuries, a man with life-threatening injuries, and three men and three women with non-life-threatening injuries.

8News has reached out to the Richmond Police Department to inquire about the number of shooters, details on the suspects, whether anyone is in custody or if police believe there is currently a danger to the public and more.
