21-year-old killed in Hanover County crash

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate after a 21-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Mechanicsville.

At 1:39 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, deputies were called to the 7200 block of Brooking Way for a single-vehicle crash.

According to authorities, a preliminary investigation indicates that a 2019 Ford pick-up truck was traveling south on Brooking Way when it left the roadway and hit a tree.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford -- identified as 21-year-old Michael L. Gill of Mechanicsville -- was pronounced dead at the scene by Hanover Fire and EMS.

A release from the sheriff's office says investigators are still collecting information to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

"The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Michael L. Gill during this difficult time," the release reads.
