24-year-old woman missing out of Chesterfield after reported sunrise hike in mountains

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 24-year-old woman who told family members she was hiking in the mountains to watch the sunrise is missing out of Chesterfield County on Sunday, according to police.

At 9:06 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, the Chesterfield County Police Department issued an alert for 24-year-old McKenzie Barker.

Police said Barker was last seen at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27. She left home after telling family members that she was going hiking in the mountains to watch the sunrise.

Officials describe Barker as a white woman with brown hair and blue eyes. She stands at about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 114 pounds, per police.

She left wearing a dark-colored jacket and pants, a blue scarf, red shoes and a light blue backpack.

Barker drives a blue 2016 Mazda CX-3 with a Virginia license plate TMC-3028.

Police do not have any indication of what trail she was hiking and have contacted police agencies in the region and the Shenandoah National Park police.

"We believe she was hiking alone," police told 8News.
