26-year-old man charged in Hopewell for allegedly shooting mother in the head

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- A 26-year-old man has been charged for allegedly shooting his mother in the head in Hopewell on Wednesday. At around midnight on Wednesday, Jan. 8, Hopewell Telecommunications received a report of a female subject who had been shot in the 500 block of N. 7th Avenue. According to police, officers responded to the area and found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was provided emergency medical care on the scene before being transported to a local hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, the victim was transported to Chippenham Hospital for advanced medical treatment for injuries considered to be life-threatening. Police said 26-year-old Korry Jamal Lynch, of Hopewell, was charged with the following in connection to the shooting: felony aggravated malicious wounding felony use of a firearm while in the commission of a felony felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon felony shooting into an occupied dwelling felony grand larceny According to police, Lynch was identified as the son of the victim and was taken into custody. He is being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail. The Hopewell Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate.
