$2.7 million illegal narcotics seized by state police in 8 days of crime suppression operations
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Virginia State Police troopers seized $2.7 million in illegal narcotics in eight days as part of an ongoing effort to stop multiple crimes.
From Jan. 31 to Feb. 7, Virginia State Police's crime suppression operations included efforts to recover firearms, seize narcotics and investigate crimes, such as human trafficking, throughout the Commonwealth.
According to Virginia State Police, $2,777,811 of narcotics were prevented from being sold in the state. Officials said the total narcotics seized amounted to 260 pounds, along with 1,000 controlled substance pills.
The following is a breakdown of the narcotics that were seized:
- Crack cocaine: 1.25 ounces
- Marijuana: 235.60 pounds
- Heroin: 0.53 ounces
- Fentanyl: 1,000 pills
- Cocaine: 19.75 pounds
According to state police, 36 firearms were also recovered as part of the agency's ongoing crime suppression operations, which were valued at $25,000.
Additionally, officials said 20 tips about illegal gambling and 67 new human trafficking tips were received.
State police said 179 human trafficking cases were investigated or are currently being investigated, with 60 victims reportedly identified and offered services.
