32-year-old Chesterfield man dead after officer shot at him during disturbance call

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 32-year-old Chesterfield County man is dead after an officer shot at him during a neighborhood disturbance call on Tuesday.

At about 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department were called to the 4000 block of Frye Terrace for report of a disturbance.

The caller told dispatch that a man, now identified as 32-year-old Tamondrick J. Burroughs, Jr. of Chesterfield, was standing on their property and yelling while holding a "long gun." The caller further claimed that, at one point, Burroughs approached their front door.

While officers were on their way to Frye Terrace, they were told by the caller that Burroughs had returned to his own home.

Upon their arrival, officers went to Burroughs' home and began looking for him.

"Officers identified themselves and saw [Burroughs,] armed with a rifle, in the doorway of his residence," police said. "Additional investigation confirmed [he] brandished the rifle at the officers, pointing the firearm in their direction."

One of the responding officers fired at least one shot at Burroughs, who then fled further into his home.

According to police, officers did not enter the home immediately. Instead, they established a perimeter around Burroughs' and used a drone to clear the residence. Through the drone's camera, they saw Burroughs unresponsive on the floor.

Officers then went inside and found that Burroughs had died.
