35-year-old West Point man dead after running off King William road, hitting trees

KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 35-year-old West Point man is dead after his vehicle ran off the side of the road and hit multiple trees in King William County on Saturday morning.

Virginia State Police said the single-vehicle crash was reported at around 4 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, in the 14000 block of West River Road in King William County.

According to police, a black Ram 1500 was traveling east on West River Road when it ran off the left side of the roadway, hit multiple trees and the driver was ejected.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Rafael William Smith Polanco of West Point, died at the scene. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

West River Road is closed in the area while crash reconstruction and other personnel respond and clear the scene, according to police.

The crash remains under active investigation.
