4 people hospitalized after 10-vehicle crash on I-95 in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Four people are now hospitalized after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 southbound in Richmond Friday morning.

At around 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, Virginia State Police (VSP), responded to three multi-vehicle crashes all within the same area on I-95 near Exit 74C near West Broad Street.

According to state police, the first crash happened after a silver sedan "lost control of the vehicle and crashed." The following crashes happened as a result of the first one, including one tractor-trailer that "jack-knifed" across all travel lanes.

Ten vehicles were involved in the crashes and according to VSP.

Police say four people have been taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As of 11:42 a.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said that the scene is clear and lanes have re-opened.
