4 people injured, 3 dogs killed in early morning apartment fire in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Four people were injured and three dogs were killed after a fire broke out early Sunday morning in an apartment in Chesterfield County.

At around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS responded to an apartment fire in the 11400 block of Dunbrook Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from an apartment building and fire inside a second-story unit, officials said.

Firefighters located three victims when fighting the fire, including one with life-threatening injuries. They were transported to area hospitals. Officials said a Chesterfield Police officer was also transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Chesterfield officials said three dogs also died in the fire.

The fire was marked under control within an hour, with the damage contained to the unit where the fire broke out, per officials.

No further information is available. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
