41-year-old killed in Henrico motorcycle crash

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that happened over the weekend on Airport Drive. Around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, state troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash that involved a motorcycle on Interstate 295 northbound near Airport Drive in Henrico County. According to police, a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Joshua Ballard had hit an exposed lip between lanes that was the result of recent repaving and resurfacing work. The impact of the hit caused both Ballard and his passenger, identified as a 26-year-old woman, to be thrown from the motorcycle. Ballard and the woman were both taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the woman is currently being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Ballard died due to his injuries. According to police, both of them were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. VSP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
