42-year-old driver dead after running off King William road, overturning

KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 42-year-old driver is dead after his vehicle ran off a King William County road and overturned on the Fourth of July.

Just before 2:15 p.m. on Friday, July 4, Virginia State Police arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Walkerton Road, about half a mile from Route 30, or King William Road.

State police said a 2020 Freightliner M2 was traveling south on Walkerton Road when it ran off the road.

The driver tried to overcorrect, causing the vehicle to re-enter the roadway and overturn, according to police.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Ricardo Jennings of Washington, D.C., was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The passenger, a 26-year-old man from Alexandria, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center in Richmond for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
