45-year-old man killed in crash on Route 33 in Greene

GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 45-year-old man was killed in a crash on Route 33 in Greene County on Thursday when he swerved and hit another vehicle.

At 5:37 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, troopers with the Virginia State Police were called to Spotswood Trail on U.S. Route 33 for a reported crash -- about one mile east of Skyline Drive.

Police said an initial investigation shows that a 2004 Chrysler Sebring, driven by 45-year-old Samuel Cordova, of Harrisonburg, was traveling east on Spotswood Trail and trying to overtake another vehicle when it crossed into the westbound lane.

"The Sebring then swerved, overcorrected back toward the eastbound lane, lost control, spun, and struck a 2023 Volvo XC60," police wrote in a March 27 press release.

Cordova died as a result of his injuries, though police said he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Volvo was not injured.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
