52 traffic summonses issued in Charles City County over Labor Day weekend

CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Charles City County Sheriff's Office issued 52 summonses for traffic violations on Saturday, during Labor Day weekend.

In an effort to ensure safety on Charles City County roads during the Labor Day weekend, the sheriff's office set up multiple sobriety checkpoints on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Officials said a total of 534 vehicles were checked during a six-hour period, and a total of 52 summonses were issued for different traffic violations that ranged from driving while suspended to expired state tags and expired state inspections.

Seven vehicles were reportedly towed away.

"This is just our continued commitment to ensuring the roadways of the Commonwealth, especially in Charles City County are safe," Charles City County Sheriff Jayson Crawley. "Along with this, we continued saturated patrols throughout the Holiday weekend."

In addition, officials said there were no traffic-related deaths over the weekend in the county.
