58-year-old killed in hit-and-run crash in Richmond County

RICHMOND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a 58-year-old pedestrian on Thursday night in Richmond County.

Authorities said the hit-and-run occurred on Thursday, Feb. 3, at around 7:30 p.m. on Route 360, also known as Richmond Road, in the town of Warsaw.

VSP reports that a pedestrian who has now been identified as 58-year-old Arthur A. Day of Warsaw was crossing Route 360 near Campus Drive when two vehicles traveling eastbound approached him.

Preliminary investigation has shown that the first vehicle swerved to avoid Day, but the second vehicle hit him.

Day was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died due to his injuries.

A witness described the second vehicle as a black or dark-colored SUV. The driver fled the scene, traveling east on Route 360. There was no license plate information provided.

The vehicle of the driver remains unidentified as this crash remains under investigation.
