72-year-old man dead after being run over by vehicle in Hanover

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 72-year-old Mechanicsville man is dead after authorities say he was run over by a vehicle on private property on Thursday.

At 11:55 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, deputies with the Hanover County Sheriff's Office were called to the 9200 block of Haska Court in Mechanicsville for a report of a person who had been run over by a vehicle on private property.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim in his driveway, partially under the vehicle.

Hanover County Fire and EMS responded and were able to pull the victim -- 72-year-old Gary Anderson of Mechanicsville -- out and take him to to VCU Medical Center for treatment.

He later died due to his injuries at the hospital.

Authorities believe the incident is an accident, based on evidence at the scene and home security camera footage and ""not the result of any suspicious or malicious activity," they said.
