79-year-old Brunswick woman found dead in yard with injuries from dogs

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 79-year-old Brunswick County woman was found dead in a backyard on Friday, with authorities saying she was injured by dogs.

At about 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office were called to the area of Ponderosa Lane for report of an unresponsive person.

When they arrived, deputies found 79-year-old Doris Laverne Williams of Brunswick dead in a backyard.

"The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but some injuries caused by dogs were observed," the sheriff's office said.

Lunenburg officer accused of shooting woman in domestic incident now in custody

The Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond will determine Williams' exact cause of death. Her autopsy results are still pending as of Monday, Feb. 9.

"Several dogs that lived in the area were identified and surrendered to Brunswick Animal Control," the sheriff's office said.

No criminal charges have been filed as of yet.
