8News gets sneak peek of 6th annual Egyptian Festival

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from two special guests on Thursday to talk about the upcoming 6th annual Egyptian Festival.

8News anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined by Marena Shawquy, a junior at J. R. Tucker High School, and Mina Rezk, a biomedical engineering student at Virginia Commonwealth University, to discuss what people can expect at the event.

"It's going to be an event for everyone, free admission -- there's going to be free parking -- so we're waiting for y'all to come and join us," Rezk said.

Shawquy and Rezk also brought some samples of the food that will be available, including beef kofta, beef kebab, chicken kebab, chicken shwarma, stuffed grape leaves and more.

The festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Mary & St. Philopater Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church at 2101 Fordson Road.

People will get the chance to experience authentic Egyptian food and culture, kids activities, live performances and church tours.
