8News honored with Edward R. Murrow Awards for Excellence in Innovation and Digital

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has awarded 8News with two Regional 2025 Edward R. Murrow Awards.

The station received major honors for Excellence in Innovation and Digital in the Television: Small Market category.

Last year's launch of the WRIC NOW livestreaming podcast platform was awarded the regional prize for Innovation, allowing reporters to expand upon their reporting in a long-form and unscripted format.

8News continues to lead the region with a "Digital First" focus -- bringing all breaking news to online spaces with immediacy, accuracy and quality. Reporters and digital producers continue to collaborate on Taking Action investigations to help the Central Virginia community stay informed.

RTDNA has been honoring stations with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Annual winners are shown to demonstrate a remarkable standard of excellence in journalism.

8News now advances to the national competition of the Edward R. Murrow Awards in each category. Winners are expected to be announced in August.
