8News joined by American Heart Association to talk about Richmond Heart Ball

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from two special guests in the studio on Tuesday morning to talk about the upcoming Richmond Heart Ball.

StormTracker8 Meteorologist Matt DiNardo and Good Morning Richmond Anchor Autumn Childress were joined by Terrence Kerner, the Richmond Heart Ball Chair, and Audry Dubon with the American Heart Association (AHA) to talk about the event.

"The heart ball is a celebration of a year's worth of work to improve the health of the community," Dubon said. "So we bring together hundreds of philanthropists and advocates to celebrate the work that we're doing and really just have a fun night."

The ball will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Main Street Station located at 1500 East Main Street in Richmond. For more information about the event, and to donate to the cause, click here.

Each year, a different person steps up as heart ball chair. This time around, Kerner has taken on the role due to the impact he sees from cardiovascular disease and stroke as someone who works in the construction industry.

"I see the high risk of construction workers -- long hours, stressful, not the best nutrition necessarily, maybe tobacco use, and I see the risk and we want to bring awareness to that," Kerner said.

For 8News viewers thinking of attending, they can expect to see a familiar face, as DiNardo will be emceeing the event for the third year in a row.
