‘A sense of security’: Henrico opens water distribution sites amid issues with water pressure

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County officials have opened water distribution centers following a water main break in downtown Richmond that left many county residents with low water pressure.

“It seems alright,” said Henrico resident Michael Richardson, who was in line for water when 8News visited one such site. “It's not a slow-level flow or anything like that.”

Richardson wasn't the only neighbor who said his water was not any different -- but after January's water crisis, which left homes across Central Virginia without running water, many are choosing to not take any chances.

"We don't have any problems yet, but we don’t know what the weekend’s going to bring,” said Carrie Martin, who also stopped by the Best Plaza distribution center to collect water as a precaution.

County officials confirm the water remains safe to drink, but precautionary measures -- like the distribution centers -- are underway as concern spreads among the community.

“It gives you a sense of security … that the county is [ensuring that] people have good drinking water," Richardson said.

County officials said repairs to the system may extend into Monday evening. In the meantime, distribution efforts continue, with residents expressing gratitude for the quick response and smoother process compared to earlier water emergencies.

“I’m very, very happy that they’re doing this,” Martin said. “It shows that they respect and take care of us.”

Henrico officials said the drive-thru water distribution site at Best Plaza, located at 1400 Best Plaza Drive, will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for as long as it's needed.

On Saturday, Harvie Elementary School -- located at 3401 Harvie Road -- will also serve as a distribution center from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., the county said. Residents can pick up one case of water per car.
