Adult, child without a home after apartment fire above Richmond restaurant

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- An adult and a child are without a home after an apartment fire above a Richmond restaurant Monday afternoon.

At about 3:53 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, crews with the Richmond Fire Department were called to a building in the area of West Broad and North Foushee streets for report of a structure fire.

When they arrived, firefighters found flames pouring from the second-story window of a building on the Foushee Street side.

The fire was contained to the impacted apartment. Its damage displaced one adult and one child.

Fire officials told 8News that the restaurant beneath this apartment, Tarrant's Cafe, was not damaged, but it did close early due to the incident. Its ownership called in a health inspector out of an abundance of caution.

Tarrant's should reopen on Tuesday, Nov. 25, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No additional information is available as of the time of reporting.
