‘All about the music’: Les Misérables returns to Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The world-renowned musical, "Les Misérables," is currently performing at Richmond's Altria Theater this week.

The Tony award-winning musical has returned with eight shows during its week-long run from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7.

"Our show is all about the music," said Kenneth J. Davis, the traveling stage manager for the show. "There is nothing like a live performance."

As stage manager for the classic musical, Davis ensures that the musical lives up to standard each night. His role includes watching over the 85 people who travel with the show -- such as the orchestra, cast and crew. As well as making sure that the show is the same each night, similar to the ones being performed around the world.

"When you hear the audience roar either at the first notes -- which a lot of people recognize -- or certainly at the curtain call, then, you know we've done our job, and it's all worthwhile," Davis said.

Davis described "Les Misérables" as a story that inspires love, hope and faith that the whole family can enjoy.

"If it's your first time or your eighth time, there's always something new to see," he said.

"Les Misérables" is performing every night with two shows on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased here.
