All westbound lanes were closed on I-64 in Goochland due to tractor-trailer crash

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- All westbound lanes were closed on a section of Interstate 64 in Goochland County Tuesday morning due to a tractor-trailer crash.

At 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reported that all westbound lanes were closed on I-64 near the exit for World War II Veterans Memorial Highway due to a tractor-trailer crash.

Virginia State Police said troopers were called to the crash at around 8:20 a.m., where a box truck pulling a trailer and carrying bags of concrete was found lying on the driver's side.

Officials said the concrete bags had been thrown off the truck and were lying on the highway.

According to state police, an investigation found that the box truck had reportedly lost control and overturned on its side. A second commercial vehicle in the other lane had then braked and swerved to miss the overturned truck, but hit the back of it.

The driver of the box truck was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

As of 4:25 p.m., VDOT said the left lane on I-64 West has been reopened to traffic. However, drivers should continue to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

Officials said I-64 will remain in a semi-closed state, and the closure is expected to remain in place until around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, as paving operations will begin to resurface the center and right travel lanes.
