Alleged stolen license plate in Caroline County leads to officials finding suspected meth

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After officials in Caroline County noticed a license plate that was believed to be reported stolen on a vehicle, an investigation led to deputies finding suspected methamphetamine. Multiple charges were then placed against the driver.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, an investigator and a deputy with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office saw a vehicle in the town of Bowling Green in Caroline County with a license plate they believed was reported stolen in Spotsylvania County.

As deputies moved to pull the driver of the vehicle over, officials said the driver of the vehicle appeared to notice them and pulled into the parking lot of a Walgreens.

The sheriff's office said the driver parked in a handicapped parking space and quickly got out of the vehicle, attempting to walk away.

Deputies reportedly approached the person, who initially did not comply with commands to stop. He was then detained, officials said.

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as a 28-year-old man of Fredericksburg.

Through further investigation and a search, deputies reportedly found suspected methamphetamine, a glass smoking device and ammunition.

The man was taken into custody and was charged with the following:

  • Parking in a handicap parking spot without a qualifying disability
  • Driving a motor vehicle with a revoked license, third offense
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of ammunition by a convicted felon

He was taken to the Pamunkey Regional Jail, where officials said he is being held without bond.
