Amtrak trains to Richmond delayed due to speed restrictions from heat wave

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- With the first heat wave of the summer having made its way to the Greater Richmond Region, Amtrak is seeing some delays for those traveling to Richmond due to speeding restrictions.

How to stay safe during a heat wave

On Wednesday, June 25, a spokesperson with Amtrak shared with 8News that Richmond Staples Mill Road Station and Richmond Main Street Station, are expected to be impacted. This news comes after Amtrak experienced delays between Washington, D.C., New York and Pennsylvania, due to hot weather.

According to a release shared by Amtrak on Tuesday, June 24, customers traveling in the northeast, southeast and Mid-Atlantic will experience temperature-related speed restrictions from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Amtrak stated that affected customers will be communicated with directly.
