Another former employee charged after toddler walked from Richmond Montessori School into road

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One week after a former Richmond Montessori School employee was charged in connection to an incident in 2024 when a toddler ran from the school and into traffic, another former employee is facing the same charge.

Twenty-nine-year-old Rebeca Rosas-Eterovic of Richmond has been charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with the incident in November 2024 when a toddler ran from Richmond Montessori School and into the road, according to the Henrico County Police Division.

Court records show that Eterovic was arrested by police on Tuesday, May 27, and was arraigned in Henrico County Juvenile/Domestic Relations Court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28.

Eterovic is a former employee of the school, according to a school spokesperson.

On Monday, May 19, 33-year-old Abigail Layne Baracat of Richmond was charged with the same count in connection to the incident. A school spokesperson confirmed that Baracat was a former employee at the school.

On Nov. 22, 2024, a toddler wandered from his class at Richmond Montessori School and onto Parham Road, where he was saved by a Good Samaritan, according to a statement from the school.

In the wake of the incident, the Virginia Department of Social Services inspected the school in December 2024.

In the subsequent report, state inspectors detailed four standards that had been violated by the school both during the incident and immediately afterward.
