Applications are now open for the fourth cohort of the Richmond Resilience Initiative

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- On Monday, the Richmond Resilience Initiative (RRI) and Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) fourth cohort announced that eligible residents can apply to receive $500 per month for 24 months.

The fourth cohort will focus on:

  • Supporting single parents
  • Including guardians with custody
  • Stepparents
  • Foster parents
  • Others who serve as the primary caregivers in their household

According to a press release, in 2020 the Office of Community Wealth Building (OCWB) and the Robins Foundation, the RRI program is targeted at reducing financial instability amongst working families.

The OCWB has found that residents who participate in the program have used these monthly payments towards other expenses such as paying down payments, investing in education and to create stability within their families.

Richmond Mayor Danny Avula also shared his thoughts on the program, "In Richmond, we believe everyone has a right to thrive, not just survive. The Richmond Resilience Initiative reflects our ongoing commitment creating a city where families have the stability and support they need to build a better future..."
