As Powerball prize grows, so does anticipation from Virginians for $1.3 billion prize
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- After one Virginian won $1 million and two others won $150,000 each, anticipation is growing for this week's $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot.
The drawing will occur on Wednesday, Sept. 3. where one lucky winner will receive a total of $1.3 billion.
On Labor Day, Virginia saw a new millionaire after a Manassas ticket purchased at a Wawa won by matching the first five numbers and missing only the Powerball number, according to a release.
Two additional winners doubled their $50,000 wins by spending an extra dollar on a power play which tripled their prizes. The winners matched four of the first five winning numbers plus the Powerball number.
You can purchase Powerball tickets at any of more than 5,300 Virginia Lottery retailers statewide or online using the Virginia Lottery app.
