RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Orchard House Middle School in Richmond will host a screening of the award-winning, locally-made documentary film "Daughters" on Thursday afternoon.
Orchard House Middle School, located at 500 N. Allen Avenue, will host an Impact Screening of the film "Daughters" at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.
"Daughters" is an award-winning film co-directed by Girls For A Change co-founder Angela Patton. Emmy-winning actress Kerry Washington joined the project as an executive producer in early 2024.
Girls For A Change is a nonprofit organization located in North Chesterfield that focuses on the development of self-identifying Black girls as leaders and change-makers across the Greater Richmond Metro Area, according to the organization's website, and is featured in the documentary.
According to Girls For A Change, the film "Daughters" tells the story of four young girls as they prepare for a special daddy-daughter dance with their incarcerated fathers as part of a unique fatherhood program in a Washington, D.C. jail.
According to a spokesperson for the event, following the film's screening at Orchard House Middle School, there will be a Q&A discussion with Patton and Aubrey Smith, who is one of the four girls featured in the film.
The discussion will be moderated by Adrienne Cole Johnson, Chief of Family and Community Engagement for Henrico County Public Schools.
Food and drinks will also be available to purchase at the event.
