Back to School Guide for Nottoway County Public Schools
NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — 8News is your back-to-school headquarters this 2025-26 school year! Here’s what students and families kicking off a new academic year at Nottoway County Public Schools need to know.
The first day of school for Nottoway students is Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Things to know and what to bring to school
A spokesperson with Nottoway County Public Schools emphasized that the school is committed to excellence each day of school, and students and families should "start the year off right by arriving at school on time."
School officials advised that families should know the bus routes, school start time and bring any required supplies.
According to the school district, students will enter through a weapon detection system and are not allowed to bring any prohibited items -- which are listed in the Student Code of Conduct -- on school grounds.
Policies, changes for students and families to know about
The school division does not issue cell phones and other devices to students. Instead, they are kept in carts in the classroom for use. Similar to other school districts, they are prohibited from using them until the end of the day.
"Our focus is on a balance of instruction in the classroom for learning," a spokesperson for the school division said.
The school district also emphasized that there are some open staff positions available, including bus drivers, substitutes, food service workers, a special education teacher and a middle school teacher.
Supply lists are posted on the school website, with fifth and sixth grades found here, as well as on individual school Facebook pages, and in local stores.
In addition, Nottoway County Public Schools is a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) district -- where low-income students receive free meals to all students without requiring individual applications -- and as a result, free breakfasts and lunches are provided to all students.
For this school year, the school division emphasized a few new trade program offerings, including fire science and criminal justice, and they continue to offer trade opportunities at Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center.
Anything on the calendar before school starts?
Nottoway County Public Schools is holding a Back to School Parking Lot Party from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, at Nottoway Sports Complex.
