Bicyclist hit by car at Broad Street intersection dies in hospital

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Police Department is investigating after a bicyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle at a Broad Street intersection on Thursday.

At 3:28 p.m. on Oct. 23, officers were called to the 1500 block of West Broad Street for a reported collision.

Upon their arrival, officers found an unconscious man down on the ground. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

An investigation from the RPD Crash Team determined that a dark colored sedan had been driving southbound on Bowe Street when it attempted to take a right turn onto West Broad Street and hit the victim -- a bicyclist riding eastbound on Broad Street across the intersection.

Police said the driver of the sedan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
