Maymont launches speaker series exploring history, landscapes for 100th anniversary

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A new speaker series is taking visitors behind the scenes to learn about Maymont's historical landscapes and their significance.

With over 100 acres across its grounds, Maymont's visitors might not have had time to explore every corner of the park. This year, as part of the space's 100th anniversary, the inaugural Maymont at 100: Speaker Series aims to share the importance of preserving Maymont's buildings and landscapes through a series of events.

Maymont’s Virginia Wildlife Trail to reopen in May with family festivities

The first event, "The Power of Place: The Italian Garden at Maymont," will take place on April 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with curator Kathy Garrett-Cox discussing the history of the Italian Garden. Senior manager of horticulture Sean Proietti will take visitors on a walk through the garden to learn about plantings and methods used to care for the historic green space.

Organizers noted that the Italian Garden is not wheelchair accessible. Registration is required, with tickets costing $18.
