Black Heath Meadery to celebrate 11 years with weekend of festivities

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond's Black Heath Meadery will celebrate 11 years of business with a weekend of festivities.

Organizers said Black Heath Meadery's 11-year anniversary celebration will begin on Thursday, March 19, with "Comedy Night" at The Hive taproom, located at 1313 Altamont Ave.

Attendees at Comedy Night will be able to enjoy performances by five stand-up comedians.

Next, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, the meadery will host a "Vertical Tasting" event at its production facility, The Nucleus, located at 2004 Dabney Rd. Organizers said tickets cost $50 each and can be purchased online.

Visitors attending the tasting event will try 12 different meads from across Black Heath's history.

The main anniversary celebration will be held from noon until 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at The Hive, with new mead releases, special pours and more celebration.

During the main anniversary celebration, the meadery said the taproom will be open from 1 to 9 p.m., and River City Wood Fire Pizza will serve pizzas for purchase on site from noon to 6 p.m.

The weekend will reportedly conclude with "Psyche Sundays" from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, at The Hive, featuring live music, as well as an open mic for bands and musicians.

"This anniversary is really a celebration of the community that helped build Black Heath," said Bill Cavender, owner and chief mead officer for Black Heath Meadery. "From the farmers and beekeepers who provide our ingredients to the guests who fill The Hive every week, this milestone belongs to all of them."
