Bond hearing set for Richmond man accused of shooting, killing his daughter

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A bond hearing has been scheduled for a man accused of shooting his daughter while holding his grandchild during a tragic incident in Richmond earlier this year.

Just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to reports of an armed individual in the 700 block of South Harrison Street.

When they arrived, officers found 22-year-old Alicia Ellis lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents obtained by 8News, officers found 55-year-old Alonzo Ellis inside the apartment, holding both a firearm and his grandson.

In July, prosecutors dropped the original charges against Ellis to pursue new, pending charges. He now faces charges of first-degree murder in the death of Alicia Ellis, along with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to online court records.

The bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m.
