Bridge to be dedicated to Greensville deputy who died in line of duty
GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A bridge in Greensville County will soon become a memorial for a deputy who died in the line of duty almost 11 years ago. The Deputy Percy Lee House, III Memorial Bridge Dedication Ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, on what will soon no longer be known as the Otterdam Road Bridge. Prior to his death, House spent nearly three decades of his life working for the Emporia Police Department, the Southside Regional Jail and the Greensville County Sheriff's Department. In a Jan. 30 press release, county officials described him as someone who had "unwavering dedication and commitment to protecting the community." According to the Virginia Sheriffs' Association, House went missing the morning of Friday, Jan. 31, 2014. Two days later, he was found dead in his vehicle in a creek off of Massie Branch Road. He was 52 years old. Deputy Percy Lee House, III. (Photo: Greensville County Government) It's believed that icy road conditions caused House to crash, the association said. "[House] was known for his bravery, compassion and deep sense of duty," county officials said in the Thursday release. "The bridge dedication serves as a lasting tribute to Deputy House's sacrifice and a reminder of the impact he had on the lives of so many."
