Camels, ostriches and zebras to race at Colonial Downs in July

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Camels, ostriches and zebras oh my! For the first Friday at Colonial Downs, the track is hosting races featuring several exotic animals.

This unique racing event serves to celebrate the first weekend of Colonial Downs' summer meet, and will take place on Friday, July 11 -- with the exotic animal races being held between thoroughbred races.

While the camels will be ridden by special guests from throughout Central Virginia, people may see some familiar faces as Colonial Downs jockeys suit up to ride the zebras and ostriches. Parimutuel wagering will not be permitted for the exotic animal races.
