CarMax lays off over 230 employees, including 113 in Richmond area

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- More than 230 CarMax employees were laid off on Wednesday, including 113 in the Richmond area, according to a CarMax spokesperson.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, a CarMax spokesperson told 8News that 113 people were laid off in the Richmond area due to what they called "workforce changes" being communicated.

CarMax is based in the Richmond region, with its headquarters located in Goochland County.

The company's full statement is as follows:

"We have made the difficult decision to reduce Home Office and CarMax Auto Finance staffing by approximately 230 positions. After careful consideration, we determined that the elimination of certain roles was necessary to reduce costs and operate with a faster, leaner corporate workforce. 

Our primary focus is supporting our associates throughout this transition. We are providing resources to the associates who are impacted, including offering severance, career support services, and the opportunity to apply for open internal roles."
