‘Catch the fun’: Saturday marks first full day of 114th Chesterfield County Fair
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Saturday marked the first full day of the 114th year of the Chesterfield County Fair.
The fair will run from 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday through Sunday, and is being held at 10300 Courthouse Road in Chesterfield.
The Chesterfield County Fair is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting agriculture, education and community entertainment in a family-friendly setting, per the fair's website.
Brenda White Vaughn, General Manager of the Chesterfield County Fair Association, shared some new additions after more than a century of the fair, which include a lumberjack show, pig races, baby ducks, a science show and more.
"I get to see the vendors that I haven't seen in a while, unless we're at a convention or another fair," Vaughn said. "It's like a family reunion, so it's a great camaraderie and we all have fun together and get along. It's just a lot of fun. That's our motto: 'catch the fun.'"
Ahead of the fair, the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office sent out a reminder of updated policies and requirements for those attending the Chesterfield County Fair after violent incidents occurred last year.
8News previously reported that several fights resulted in four arrests at last year;s Chesterfield County Fair.
Vaugh said the main goal is "the safety of everybody who comes through those gates, and as a result, they have implemented security measures, including one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar), following the incident that Vaugh called "disappointing" last year.

Despite this, organizers, including Vaughn, aim to make the most out of this year's county fair, with Vaugh saying her 1-year-old and 3 year old grandchildren are attending this year's fair for the first time.
"To see the smiles on their faces thus far -- you can't measure that," Vaughn said. "It just warms your heart and that's what I want to see. Kids of all ages, including my age, have fun. Just seeing the smile on their faces and enjoying every aspect that there is to see out here."
Full adult admission is $20, according to Vaughn. That includes wristbands, ground acts and bands.
