44-year-old driver killed, another seriously injured in wrong-way head-on crash in Caroline

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 44-year-old driver is dead and another was seriously injured after a wrong-way head-on crash on Route 301 in Caroline County on Wednesday.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched to a crash on Route 301 northbound at mile marker 118 in Caroline County at 3:07 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that 44-year-old Kristen Lindsay Raso, of Hanover County, was driving a 2008 Mazda MZ3, south in the northbound lanes of Route 301.

The Mazda then hit a 1990 GMC Sierra pickup truck head-on, according to police.

Raso died due to her injuries at the scene.

Officials said the driver of the pickup truck was taken by MedFlight to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center with serious injuries following the crash.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
