Celebrate International Beaver Day at Pocahontas State Park

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Did you know International Beaver Day is in early April? Celebrate these animals and their influence on ecosystems at an event hosted at Pocahontas State Park on Friday.

According to the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, biologists believe beavers are found in every county throughout the Commonwealth. Their ability to form dams creates new habitats that benefit various other animals.

From noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 4, with the group meeting at the park's Visitor Center, located at 10301 State Park Rd., attendees will learn about beavers' adaptations.

According to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, folks will also enjoy a brief walk to Beaver Lake, where beavers' tracks can be found.

Attendees are asked to dress for the weather. Organizers said the event is suitable for all ages.
