Celebrate U.S. Army’s 250th ‘birthday’ at Virginia War Memorial
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 250th "birthday" celebration for the U.S. Army will be held at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond on Saturday.
The U.S. Army was established on June 14, 1775 -- meaning this Saturday, June 14 is its 250th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission will hold a commemorative ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held outdoors at the E. Bruce Heilman Amphitheater.
It will feature a keynote address from Brigadier General Todd Hubbard of the Virginia National Guard. There will also be patriotic music and a reading of former president George Washington's farewell address to his troops.
Active duty members of the U.S. Army, veterans and family members may attend a birthday reception in the Veterans Hall immediately following the program.
The Virginia War Memorial is located at 621 S. Belvidere St. in Richmond. Free parking is available onsite.
