Charles City man charged with first-degree murder after 43-year-old man killed in Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Charles City County man was charged with first-degree murder on Thursday after a 43-year-old man was killed in a shooting on Coalter Street in Richmond back in May.

At 10:55 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to a report of a person shot in the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

When officers arrived, they found 43-year-old Terrence Smith inside of an apartment, on the floor, with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers said Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, detectives arrested 38-year-old Adwin Zuri of Charles City County with help from the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the shooting, according to the Richmond Police Department.

Zuri's next scheduled court appearance is on Dec. 4 at Richmond City Circuit Court.
